On the day of 23rd September 1896, Queen Victoria finally surpassed her Grandfather Georg III as the longest reigning monarch in British history. Up to that point George had held the title, reigning for a respectable 59 years and 96 days. Queen Victoria’s title was surpassed by Queen Elizabeth II.
