GRAHAM HILL

JIM CLARK

It has been over 45 years since he last raced, but to many Jim Clark remains the greatest racing driver of all time.  Clark had his first Jaguar d-types and Porsches in national events and winning 18 races.  He made his formulas 1 grand prix debut on 6 June 1960 at the dutch grand prix in Zaandvort, his first drivers world championship came in 1963 driving the lotus 25 and won seven out of the ten races and won lotus in its forst seven constructors world championship.  In April 1968 Clark died in a tragic racing accident at the hockenheimring in Germany; the cause of the crash remains unknown.  The racing community was greatly saddened by his death.  Clark achieved 33 pole positions and won 25 out of his 72 grand prix’s and is remembered for his ability to drive and win in all types of cars and races.

JOHN SURTEES

Surtees was given his first motorbike at the age of 11 and he soon learned to ride and maintain it.  He left school at 16, served as a motorcycle engineer for Vincent motorcycles and had soon won his first bike race.  He enjoyed an incredible career before he was targeted by several f1 teams, and in only his second race he finished runner up to Jim Clark.  In 1961 he drove a Cooper with little success but the following season in a lola gave him five points finishes.  He then retired from motorcycle racing to concentrate on forumal one, and he joined Ferrari in 1963.  He won at the nurburgring and came fourth in the championship, but more wins in Germany and Italy and good finishes in Holland, Britain, the us and mexico gave him the 1964 world championship.  He reaimes the only man to have won world titles on two and four wheels.  In 1970 Surtees started his own formu7la one team using v8 cosworth engines.  He then retired from motorsport in 1978 and enjoyed a successful career as a property developer.
