HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN WILL HOST A RECEPTION TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY AND MARK THE END OF THE WOW GIRLS FESTIVAL BUS TOUR

Her Majesty The Queen, President of WOW – Women of the World, will host a reception at Buckingham Palace to celebrate International Women’s Day and mark the end of the WOW Girls Festival Bus tour.

The WOW Girls Festival is a force for change across society in how it sees girls, their potential and the opportunities it offers for their future.

Her Majesty The Queen will be accompanied at the reception by Her Majesty The Queen of the Belgians and Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Gloucester.

On arrival, in the Grand Entrance, Their Majesties and Her Royal Highness will meet the Director of WOW, Ms Jude Kelly, the Executive Director of WOW, Ms Colette Bailey and the Director of Festivals and Programmes, Ms Domino Pateman.

Queen Camilla, Queen Mathilde and the Duchess of Gloucester will then proceed to the quadrangle where they will visit the WOW Bus, parked at its final tour destination.

The bus tour launched on 11th October – the International Day of the Girl – and concludes at Buckingham Palace following International Women’s Day on Friday 8th March.

The WOW Girls Festival Bus Tour will be brought to a close at a reception hosted by President of WOW, Her Majesty The Queen.

The WOW Bus is an interactive space, delivering workshops and activities to all corners of the UK and reaching young people from all backgrounds in the heart of their own communities.

The interior of the WOW Bus has been adapted to allow groups, individuals and families to take part in activities designed by WOW to explore creatively issues around gender equality, including through play, reading, digital experience, video and a recording studio.

Outside the bus, Her Majesty, Queen Mathilde and the Duchess will pose for a photo before boarding the bus and touring the activity stations.

Queen Camilla will meet young people who have taken part in the festival whilst visiting the recording studio and craft sessions on board the bus.

Her Majesty The Queen will then move to the Billiards Room to meet primary school children from across the UK who have taken part in the WOW Girls Festival and will be undertaking a WOW activity around identity and leadership.

Queen Mathilde and the Duchess of Gloucester will join Her Majesty in the Bow Room and meet a group of high profile individuals including Dame Helen Mirren, Melanie Brown and her daughter, Phoenix Brown. Here, Queen Camilla will deliver a speech and join a reception of approximately 160 guests involved in the tour including young people (aged 7 to 20), high profile individuals and supporters of WOW.
