Her Majesty The Queen will visit HMS Sutherland

West India Dock, London

Monday 23rd October

Her Majesty The Queen will visit HMS Sutherland in London on Monday 23rd October. The Ship will be at West India Dock and this year she is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her Commissioning.

Upon arrival on the quayside, Her Majesty will be greeted by Commander Andrew Canale, MVO, RN. The Queen will then enter a marquee where a Reception for the Ship’s Company, families, former Commanding Officers and affiliates will be taking place.

After, The Queen will embark on board HMS Sutherland, and meet a number of personnel on the upper deck before attending a Lunch in the hanger prepared by the Royal Navy chefs.

Following the Lunch, The Queen, accompanied by Commander Canale, a former Equerry in Waiting to Her Majesty (2012-15), will join the Ship’s Company on the Flight Deck for a group photograph.

After disembarking, The Queen will be presented with a posy of flowers and following a ‘Man and Cheer Ship’, Her Majesty will depart from the quayside.

HMS Sutherland has spent much of the past twelve months conducting national tasking as the Fleet Ready Escort and Towed Array Patrol Ship, a task that requires the Ship to be at very high readiness for operational tasking around the UK.

The ship recently completed a six-week operational work up in preparation for deployment next year. Shortly afterwards, the Ship was tasked as the first Royal Navy escort for the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth on sailing from Rosyth for the first time.
