THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE WILL VISIT FAMILY ACTION AT HORNSEY ROAD CHILDREN’S CENTRE

London

Tuesday, 14th November 2017

The Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in London on Tuesday, 14th November. The Duchess will see some of the valuable family and parental support services which are delivered at the Centre, including those offered by the charity Family Action, of which The Queen is Patron.

The Hornsey Road Children’s Centre offers a welcoming environment for expectant and new mothers, and an outlet for children to play. It provides vital care and mental health support to parents, as well as offering antenatal and postnatal services, a nursery, play groups, and family support services.

One of the charities providing support services at the Centre is Family Action. The charity is one of the biggest national providers of early intervention services for families and children, transforming lives by providing practical, emotional and financial support. It works with over 45,000 families through over 130 community-based services, and aims to strengthen families and communities, build skills and resilience, and improve the life chances of children and adults across the UK.

During the visit, The Duchess will see the facilities which support local parents and young children, and will learn more about Family Action’s perinatal mental health services which operate nationwide. Her Royal Highness will hear some of the personal experiences from parents who have benefited from the charity’s support, and volunteers who are supporting them.

The Duchess’s visit to Hornsey Road comes as Her Royal Highness works to understand the challenges and issues surrounding maternal mental health. At least 20per cent of women are affected by mental health problems during pregnancy or in the first year following the birth of a child. If left untreated, it can have significant and long lasting effects on the woman and her family.

The Queen will reopen the Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery at the British Museum

Wednesday 8th November 2017

Her Majesty The Queen will reopen the Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery of China and South Asia at the British Museum in central London. The Gallery has recently undergone a major programme of renovation and restoration, and will house a wider selection of objects from one of the finest collections of its kind in the world.

The Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery was originally opened by The Queen in 1992. Twenty-five years later, Her Majesty will tour the refurbished gallery space, accompanied by Sir Joseph. The Queen will also unveil an inscription to mark the occasion.

The newly refurbished Sir Joseph Hotung Gallery will tell the stories of China and the countries of South Asia (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Nepal) from 5000 BC to the present day. The refurbishment, which began in June 2016, has created opportunities to exhibit new types of object, including ink paintings, calligraphy and textiles, which require carefully regulated conditions for display. The new exhibits complement existing display items, which include sculpture, ceramics, lacquer, jade and metal ware. The entire collection benefits from new lighting and design.

This major gallery will reopen to the public in phases. The first phase has been completed to mark the 25th anniversary of The Queen’s visit in 1992. The final phase will be completed in mid-December. This refurbishment has been made possible by a donation from The Sir Joseph Hotung Charitable Settlement.

Founded in 1753, the British Museum was the first national public museum in the world. From the outset, it granted free admission to all ‘studious and curious persons.’ Visitor numbers have grown from around 5000 a year in the eighteenth century to 6.2 million in 2016/17. Additionally, millions more people from all over the world access and interact with the Museum through its digital channels.

They will discuss how interventions in the school environment can improve attitudes to learning, raise aspirations and nurture good mental health in children and young people, to give children the best possible start in life and achieve their full potential.

This is the third School Leaders Forum, which this year is entitled ‘I’m Fine!” the conference will include presentations from leading experts in child psychiatry, psychology and research, alongside head teachers of Place2Be partner schools working in some of the most disadvantaged parts of the UK.

THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE WILL ATTEND
THE ANNA FREUD NATIONAL CENTRE GALA DINNER

The Orangery, Kensington Palace

Tuesday 7th November

The Duchess of Cambridge, will attend the 2017 Gala Dinner for The Anna Freud National Centre for Children and Families (AFNCCF), held in The Orangery at Kensington Palace.

Earlier this year Her Royal Highness, who is Patron of the AFNCCF, visited the centre’s Early Years Parenting Unit to learn more about their work with families who have children under five years old. This visit marked The Duchess’ continued desire to draw attention to child mental health issues and the importance that early intervention, and working with the whole family, can make to those in vulnerable situations.

The AFNCCF is campaigning for a step change in children’s mental health and is building a new Centre of Excellence which will bring together people and organisations in mental health, education, social care and neuroscience alongside children and families often in vulnerable situations. At the heart of this new campus will be The Family School for children aged between 5-14 who have been excluded from mainstream education, which will combine mental health care and education.

During the Gala, The Duchess will attend a reception to hear more about this project and the work of the AFNCCF from those who are closely involved in the Charity. Her Royal Highness will also meet with some of the charity’s service users, including families who have benefitted from the work of the organisation.

National Tennis Centre, London

Tuesday 31st October

The Duchess of Cambridge will visit the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) on Tuesday 31st October. Her Royal Highness became Patron of the LTA in December 2016, taking over the Patronage from Her Majesty The Queen who held the role for 64 years.

The LTA is the national governing body of tennis in Great Britain, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man. The LTA’s mission is to get more people playing tennis more often.

Upon arrival, The Duchess will receive a briefing from key representatives of the LTA on its latest grass roots activities and high-performance objectives.

Her Royal Highness will then watch several on-court sessions. The Duchess will have the chance to take part in the Tennis for Kids session. This is an LTA-run programme which introduces and teaches young children aged five to eight years old how to play and enjoy tennis. Her Royal Highness will also watch a wheelchair tennis demonstration. The Duchess will then have the opportunity to meet some of the UK’s top junior talents as well as members of the training team including coaches, nutritionists and physiotherapists who will share what it takes to be a top junior player.

Finally, The Duchess will meet some of the Coach Core apprentices who will be leading a tennis training session. The Coach Core scheme was designed by The Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry to take young people aged 16-24 with limited opportunities, and train them to be sports coaches and positive role models and mentors in their communities. Coach Core has been working with the LTA over the last 18 months to identify employer partners and additional training opportunities for apprentices around the UK. In turn this helps the LTA target new workforce and participants in diverse communities around the UK.

THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE TO ATTEND TUSK GALA

The Roundhouse, London

Thursday 2nd November, 2017

The Duke of Cambridge, Royal Patron of Tusk, will attend the conservation charity’s Gala Dinner at The Roundhouse in London.

Tusk was established in 1990 at the height of the previous poaching crisis, when elephant and rhino were slaughtered in their thousands to meet the demand of the wildlife trade. TUSK’s aim is to forge an inextricable link between the preservation of Africa’s natural heritage and the future of its land, culture and people. Its mission is to advance innovation in conservation. Since its formation, the charity has invested more than £35 million, into over 80 field projects, across 21 African countries, which each protect wildlife, and help to alleviate poverty through sustainable development and education. The charity has been actively involved in The Duke’s international efforts to halt the illegal wildlife trade.

The Gala, which will feature a headline performance by Jack Savoretti, will celebrate the charity’s achievements and the extraordinary work of those protecting wildlife across Africa. This event follows the annual Tusk Conservation Awards, which were presented recently on behalf of The Duke of Cambridge by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mrs Graca Machel and FW de Klerk at a ceremony in Cape Town. The Awards dovetailed with the charity’s inaugural Conservation Symposium, which brought together some of Africa’s leading conservationists to discuss the challenges faced, and to share solutions.

The Duke, who has been Royal Patron since December 2005, will be met on arrival by Charlie Mayhew, Tusk’s CEO and founder, before being presented to Deborah Meaden, Tusk Trustee and Chair of the Gala, as well as a number of key supporters and guests during a pre-dinner reception. At the start of dinner, His Royal Highness will be invited to give a speech on the future challenges facing Africa’s wildlife.

Queen and Prince of Wales to Visit Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment

Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will visit the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment

Tuesday 24th October, 2017

Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales will visit the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment at Hyde Park Barracks on Tuesday 24th October.

The Queen and The Prince will arrive together and will be met by Major General Sir Edward Smyth-Osborne, Commander Household Cavalry.

They will proceed on foot to the outside of the Forge where the Commanding Officer will ask The Queen to name the Regiment’s new Drum Horse.

The Queen will proceed to the stables where she will meet Troopers of the Life Guards and The Blues and Royals with their horses. She will listen to a briefing on the latest innovations in equine health.

The Prince of Wales will visit the Forge and hear about the Farriers’ Apprenticeship Programme. He will proceed on foot to the Tack Room where The Master Saddler will outline the process of preparing for major events. The Prince of Wales will also meet Troopers of The Blues and Royals.

At the conclusion of the visit The Queen and The Prince of Wales will sit for a photograph with Officers and Warrant Officers before departing Hyde Park Barracks.

The Household Cavalry consists of The Life Guards and The Blues and Royals; the oldest and most senior regiments in the British Army who retain a world famous reputation for excellence on both the battlefield and on ceremonial duties. All members of the Household Cavalry are dual roled, but consider themselves operational soldiers first and foremost. Ready for short-notice operations, at home or abroad, the Household Cavalry Regiment continues an unbroken tradition of service to the country spanning nearly four centuries. In the Armoured Cavalry role, their task is to reconnoitre swiftly ahead of other forces, scouting for the enemy and understanding the human and physical terrain. In London, the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment provides the Army’s mounted State Ceremonial & Public Duties capability – the public face of the British Army to the world and the mounted escort to Her Majesty The Queen. This summer, soldiers from Hyde Park Barracks have participated in the Queen’s Birthday Parade, the Spanish State Visit, and deployed alongside the police on Operation Temperer to provide armed security for key sites in London in the wake of the terrorist attack on Manchester.
