Her Majesty The Queen will visit HMS Sutherland

West India Dock, London

Monday 23rd October

Her Majesty The Queen will visit HMS Sutherland in London on Monday 23rd October. The Ship will be at West India Dock and this year she is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her Commissioning.

Upon arrival on the quayside, Her Majesty will be greeted by Commander Andrew Canale, MVO, RN. The Queen will then enter a marquee where a Reception for the Ship’s Company, families, former Commanding Officers and affiliates will be taking place.

After, The Queen will embark on board HMS Sutherland, and meet a number of personnel on the upper deck before attending a Lunch in the hanger prepared by the Royal Navy chefs.

Following the Lunch, The Queen, accompanied by Commander Canale, a former Equerry in Waiting to Her Majesty (2012-15), will join the Ship’s Company on the Flight Deck for a group photograph.

After disembarking, The Queen will be presented with a posy of flowers and following a ‘Man and Cheer Ship’, Her Majesty will depart from the quayside.

HMS Sutherland has spent much of the past twelve months conducting national tasking as the Fleet Ready Escort and Towed Array Patrol Ship, a task that requires the Ship to be at very high readiness for operational tasking around the UK.

The ship recently completed a six-week operational work up in preparation for deployment next year. Shortly afterwards, the Ship was tasked as the first Royal Navy escort for the aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth on sailing from Rosyth for the first time.

Prince Harry To Visit Lancashire

Monday 23rd October, 2017

Prince Harry will visit Lancashire for a day of engagements on Monday 23rd October 2017. The visit will allow His Royal Highness to explore local projects in three areas that are priorities for his work: veterans, conservation, and the use of sport to drive positive social change. Prince Harry will also return to a village that he visited following the floods that affected the region in late 2015.

His Royal Highness will begin the day with a visit to Veterans UK in Norcross, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Veterans UK Helpline Service. Established in 1992, the 24/7 national helpline provides welfare support for veterans and their families, working in partnership with Combat Stress and the Samaritans. Part of the Ministry of Defence, Veterans UK also administers the pension and compensation schemes for those injured or bereaved through service in the Armed Forces. During the visit, Prince Harry will tour the facility to meet staff and welfare officers, alongside veterans and families who benefit from the range of support services. Upon departure, His Royal Highness will unveil a plaque at the front of the building.

Prince Harry will then travel to St Michael’s on Wyre, in follow up to his visit to the flood affected village in February 2016. Around 1700 businesses and homes were damaged across the Lancashire district in the lead up to New Year in 2016. His Royal Highness will visit a residence and meet members of the community to learn about the recovery that has been achieved by the local people. Prince Harry will officially reopen the village hall at a reception attended by those who played a crucial role in response to the flooding crisis.

In the afternoon, His Royal Highness will visit Myplace at Brockholes Nature Reserve, a project which aims to empower young people by encouraging them to take action in environmental activity to improve areas for wildlife, communities and their own wellbeing. Upon arrival, Prince Harry will receive a briefing on the project, a partnership between the The Lancashire Wildlife Trust and Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust, and visit the woodland where young people will be participating in conservation and bush craft activities.

Finally, Prince Harry will travel to the UCLan Sports Arena to visit the Sir Tom Finney Soccer Development Centre and the Lancashire Bombers Wheelchair Basketball Club – two community organisations using the power of sport as a means for social development and inclusion. During the visit, His Royal Highness will meet a diverse group of people of all ages and abilities who participate in training sessions and local leagues together, with a view to building new and unique friendships. Both organisations are involved with Sported, the sport development charity with which Prince Harry has an existing connection.

BEHALF OF DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES

The Roundhouse, London

Thursday 12th October, 2017

Prince Harry will collect a posthumous Attitude Legacy Award on behalf of Diana, Princess of Wales, at the Attitude Awards on Thursday 12th October. Attitude Magazine is awarding the prize to the late Princess in honour of her significant work in drawing attention to HIV/AIDS.

The annual Attitude Awards, held at Camden’s Roundhouse, each year recognise the inspiring stories and outstanding achievements of some of the key leaders within the LGBT community. Money raised from the Awards, which are this year hosted by Tom Daley, will benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

Through the Attitude Legacy Award, and in the 20th anniversary year since Diana, Princess of Wales’ passing, Attitude Magazine hopes to acknowledge the important contribution the late Princess made to challenging the stigma and fear that surrounded HIV/AIDS in the 80s and 90s.

This year’s Legacy Award, the first of Award of the ceremony, will be introduced by Ian Walker, a former Senior Occupational Therapist at the London Lighthouse, and Julian La Bastide, a former nurse at the Mildmay Hospital. Both Ian and Julian will talk about their experiences of meeting Diana, Princess of Wales, and the legacy of her HIV/AIDS work, before inviting Prince Harry to collect the Award on behalf of his mother, and to deliver a short speech.

Queen to Attend The King’s Troop 70th Anniversary Parade

The Queen will attend The King’s Troop 70th Anniversary Parade

Thursday 19th October 2017

The Queen, Captain General, will review The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery (KTRHA) in Hyde Park, London, on the occasion of their 70th Anniversary.

The KTRHA was formed on the wishes of His Majesty King George VI in October 1947. Commonly known as the ‘Gunners’, The Royal Artillery provides firepower to the British Army. Equipped with 13-pounder field guns dating from WWI, the Troop provides ceremonial salutes for Royal occasions and state functions. The soldiers are superb equestrians as well as a fighting force, which is deployed on operations around the world when required.

Her Majesty will arrive at Hyde Park and take position on the dais for the Royal Salute and National Anthem. The Queen will then inspect the Parade in the State Review Range Rover, accompanied by the Master Gunner and Honorary Colonel.

Following the Parade, Her Majesty will attend a reception to meet soldiers and veterans of the Troop, including Percy Austen who was serving in 1947 when King George VI inspected the Parade.

Uniquely in the British Army, the KTRHA is currently made up of a 50/50 male and female demographic. At the reception, The Queen will meet some of the women who are currently serving in the Troop, including the first female Master Saddler and Master Tailor. Also present will be soldiers who are training Her Majesty’s race horse ‘Knock Castle’ which was gifted to the Troop in August.

Her Majesty will sign the 70th Anniversary Review Document and receive a posy upon departure. The Queen has been Captain General of The Royal Regiment of Artillery since 6 February 1952.

The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery received their title in 1947 when King George VI decided that, following the mechanisation of the last batteries of horse drawn artillery, a troop of horse artillery should be kept to take part in the great ceremonies of state. His Majesty declared that the Riding Troop of the Royal Horse Artillery would be known as ‘The King’s Troop’, and enacted this by striking out the word ‘Riding’ in their Visitors Book and inserting ‘King’s. On her accession, The Queen declared that the name ‘The King’s Troop’ would remain in his honour.

The King’s Troop forms part of the Household Troops and, when on parade with its guns, take precedence over all other Regiments in the Regular forces of the British Army. They also mount the Queen’s Life Guard at Horse Guards each summer when the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment is on military training outside London. The unit is also famous for their spectacular Musical Drive which thrills the crowds at shows up and down the UK every year, when they tow their guns around the arena in exciting and immaculately choreographed manoeuvres.
