Hello and welcome to the first Royal Life issue of 2015, a year that is shaping up to be quite a momentous one for fans of the British royal family.
For a start there’s the imminent arrival – thought to be some time in April – of a little sister or brother for Prince George. Then in late September of this year Queen Elizabeth II will officially take over Queen Victoria’s crown and enter the record books as the longest serving British monarch. It could be that after this milestone is reached Her Majesty might decide to take a well-earned retirement, but that’s only speculation on our part.
Meanwhile though, the Queen is more popular than ever, as was evidenced by the fact that her 2014 Christmas message to the Commonwealth was the most-watched Television programme of the festive season in Britain and the only “regular” show that increased its viewership from previous years. Shown on the main terrestrial television channels, BBC1 and ITV, the pre-recorded broadcast secured a combined audience of 7.8million, an increase of 90,000 from the previous Christmas. Her Majesty chose reconciliation as her theme for the 15-minute broadcast, mentioning her Ulster visit, the Scottish referendum and the centenary of the First World War.
You can read more about this moving speech in this issue, along with many other fascinating photo features and up to date news pieces on other members of the royal family, as we all look forward to exciting times ahead.
