Thursday 2nd November 2023

The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay will visit Scotland on Thursday 2nd November where they will meet organisations supporting rural communities in Moray and Inverness. The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay will visit Outfit Moray, Burghead

On arrival in Scotland, the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay will visit Outfit Moray, an award-winning charity delivering life-changing outdoor learning and adventure activity programmes to young people in Moray.

Outfit Moray aims to make a difference to the lives of others by actively developing the potential of young people through accessible and affordable outdoor learning and adventure, encouraging life skills and improving physical and mental health. The charity focuses on supporting those between 8 and 18 who are vulnerable or disadvantaged in some way and has worked with over 16,000 young people since its creation in 2003. Outfit Moray runs a large range of activities designed to build confidence, self-esteem and resilience including mountain biking, paddlesports, rock climbing, archery, and bushcraft. It also runs a number of programmes in local schools such as cycle training, bike maintenance and first aid programmes.

The Duke and Duchess will join the Outfit Moray team at Burghead Primary School where they will hear about the outdoor activities the charity provides and see a mountain bike session in action. Their Royal Highnesses will also view some of the programmes delivered in schools and meet some of those who have been helped by the charity.

Engagement 2:

The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay will meet farmers at Brodieshill Farm, Moray

The Duke and Duchess will then travel to a family-run farm where they will learn about efforts being made to better support the mental health and wellbeing of young people.

Their Royal Highnesses will visit Brodieshill Farm where they will meet members of the Lower Speyside Young Farmers as well as representatives from Farmstrong Scotland, which are both working to promote positive mental wellbeing in rural communities across Scotland and support local farmers.

Lower Speyside Young Farmers is run for young people from any background from the ages of 14 to 29 across the local area and provides opportunities for socialising and interaction in what can sometimes be an isolating environment. The group has a strong presence in the local community and has recently taken part in the “Are ewe okay” campaign, led by the Scottish Association of Young Farmer Clubs, which encourages members to talk about mental health and break down the stigma and taboo associated with it.

Farmstrong Scotland is committed to the wellbeing of farmers and rural communities and runs programmes to improve individual mental and physical wellbeing and, in the process, supports local businesses to thrive.

Whilst at the farm, Their Royal Highnesses will also be given the opportunity to meet families who attend regular sessions at the farm’s dedicated play area. Developed to provide a space for young children to explore and learn, Brodieshill offers an indoor and outdoor area for child-led play where families, including those based at nearby RAF Kinloss and RAF Lossiemouth, can focus and reconnect with their children, and get together regularly as a group.
