THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE TO ATTEND TUSK GALA

The Duke of Cambridge, Royal Patron of Tusk, will attend the conservation charity’s Gala Dinner at The Roundhouse in London.
Tusk was established in 1990 at the height of the previous poaching crisis, when elephant and rhino were slaughtered in their thousands to meet the demand of the wildlife trade. TUSK’s aim is to forge an inextricable link between the preservation of Africa’s natural heritage and the future of its land, culture and people. Its mission is to advance innovation in conservation. Since its formation, the charity has invested more than £35 million, into over 80 field projects, across 21 African countries, which each protect wildlife, and help to alleviate poverty through sustainable development and education. The charity has been actively involved in The Duke’s international efforts to halt the illegal wildlife trade.
The Gala, which will feature a headline performance by Jack Savoretti, will celebrate the charity’s achievements and the extraordinary work of those protecting wildlife across Africa. This event follows the annual Tusk Conservation Awards, which were presented recently on behalf of The Duke of Cambridge by Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mrs Graca Machel and FW de Klerk at a ceremony in Cape Town. The Awards dovetailed with the charity’s inaugural Conservation Symposium, which brought together some of Africa’s leading conservationists to discuss the challenges faced, and to share solutions.
The Duke, who has been Royal Patron since December 2005, will be met on arrival by Charlie Mayhew, Tusk’s CEO and founder, before being presented to Deborah Meaden, Tusk Trustee and Chair of the Gala, as well as a number of key supporters and guests during a pre-dinner reception. At the start of dinner, His Royal Highness will be invited to give a speech on the future challenges facing Africa’s wildlife.
