The Duke of Cambridge will attend the World Premiere of ‘They Shall Not Grow Old’, Peter Jackson’s First World War film which uses groundbreaking methods to provide a new understanding of the human experience of life at the front. Co‐commissioned by 14‐18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, and Imperial War Museums, the film will be given its World Premiere as a Special Presentation at the BFI London Film Festival on 16th October, at BFI Southbank.

‘They Shall Not Grow Old’ has been created exclusively with original footage from Imperial War Museums’ film archive and audio from BBC archives. Presenting his new work to mark the centenary of the First World War, internationally renowned director Peter Jackson (The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings) has used the voices of First World War veterans combined with original archival footage to bring to life the reality of war on the front line for a whole new generation. Footage has been colourised, converted to 3D and transformed with modern production techniques to present never before seen detail.

His Royal Highness will meet Peter Jackson together with producers and commissioners from the film, before watching the presentation, which will be introduced by Amanda Nevill, CEO of BFI, and Jenny Waldman, Director of 14-18 NOW. After the screening, Peter Jackson will take part in a Q&A with film critic Mark Kermode. The film will be simultaneously screened, in 2D and 3D, to cinemas and special venues across the UK.
