THE DUKE OF SUSSEX TO MEET MENTAL HEALTH ORGANISATIONS ON VISIT TO YMCA

On Wednesday April 3rd The Duke of Sussex will meet with organisations supporting the mental health of teenagers and young adults as part of his ongoing work to promote greater openness around mental health.
His Royal Highness will visit YMCA South Ealing to learn more about their work on mental health and see how they are providing support to young people in the area. He will also join a roundtable discussion convened by The Royal Foundation’s campaign ‘Heads Together’, where organisations who work directly with young people will discuss the current climate of support for mental health problems and the personal and social issues that are often the underlying cause.
YMCA South Ealing is part of ‘YMCA St Paul’s Group’, which provides services across South West, South and East London, and is one of the largest YMCAs in Europe. The South Ealing association primarily provides supported housing, providing somewhere to live for 150 young people who are having to deal with issues such as homelessness, mental illness, are recovering from substance misuse, or are fleeing domestic violence.
During his visit The Duke of Sussex will meet with residents who live in the YMCA accommodation, and meet people involved in the YMCA’s Mental Health Champions programme. Throughout England and Wales the YMCA provides mental health services to 17,000 young people each year, using workshops, family mediation and therapeutic services. His Royal Highness will also learn about the #IAMWHOLE campaign, which was developed in partnership by the NHS and YMCA to encourage young people to talk more openly about mental health.
The Duke of Sussex will also meet with parents and young children who use the community nursery based at the YMCA, which helps fund the various programmes on offer.
