PRINCE HARRY TO VISIT SILVERSTONE CIRCUIT

Silverstone, Northamptonshire

Wednesday 7th March, 2018

Prince Harry, Patron of the Silverstone Experience, will visit the site to officially mark the start of construction on Wednesday 7th March.

His Royal Highness will visit the Silverstone University Technical College, which is located alongside the circuit. In the school’s engineering workshops, Prince Harry will meet current students and alumni who are now working successfully in the motorsport industry, as well as representatives from the Williams F1 Engineering Academy. His Royal Highness will then visit the hangar where the Silverstone Experience is due to be installed to receive an update on the build programme and signal the start of construction. There will be Formula 1 cars on display to represent Silverstone’s first race in 1948, and also this year’s race in 2018 which marks Silverstone’s 70th anniversary.

The Silverstone Experience is due to open at Silverstone in Spring 2019. The project will bring the extensive heritage of Silverstone and British motor racing to life through the creation of a dynamic, interactive and educational visitor experience. The Silverstone Experience will celebrate the circuit and the country’s position at the heart of the global motorsport industry. Using the latest technology, the Silverstone Experience will tell the amazing stories of people who have been part of the site, and the history of the sector, in order to inspire future generations.

The Silverstone UTC (University Technical College) opened in September 2013 and is an educational facility for 14-18 year olds that helps those who want to pursue careers in High Performance Engineering and Business and Technical Events Management. Past pupils have gone on to study engineering at university and on to apprenticeships and employment in companies including Red Bull Racing, Renault F1, Mercedes F1 and Cosworth Engineering.
