THE PRINCE OF WALES WILL VISIT SHEFFIELD TO UNVEIL MAJOR COMMITMENTS SECURED THROUGH HOMEWARDS TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS TOGETHER

Tuesday 19th March 2024

Prince William will visit Sheffield on Tuesday 19th March to unveil major commitments, secured through The Royal Foundation’s Homewards programme, to prevent homelessness together.

As with other parts of the UK, homelessness, and specifically family homelessness, has been an increasing issue in recent years for Sheffield. The city was announced as one of the six flagship Homewards locations in June 2023.

During his time in Sheffield, the Prince will join parents, carers and young adults from local families who have experienced housing insecurity and homelessness, alongside community representatives from grassroot organisations, as they take part in a workshop to co-design Homewards Sheffield’s innovative housing project.

His Royal Highness will then meet with local landlords to discuss how they can assist with ending family homelessness within the city and hear about housing commitments they are making to support the programme. Homewards Activator, Homebase, will also be involved in the conversation, sharing their pledge of support to ensure that all Homewards innovative housing projects feel like home.

Finally, Prince William will join a Homewards Sheffield Local Coalition meeting in the city’s centre. Local Coalitions have been convened in each of the six Homewards locations to create and drive forward a Local Action Plan to demonstrate that it is possible to end homelessness in their area.

His Royal Highness will attend a Homewards Sheffield Local Coalition meeting at the Millennium Gallery.

The Coalition has been convened over the past nine months by Homewards to bring in new partners, create a shared vision for Sheffield, and formulate a Local Action Plan towards ending homelessness in the area. The group includes over 70 organisations, and members of the local community with lived experience of homelessness.

At the meeting, the Prince will join discussions about the impact made by Homewards in Sheffield so far, and the immediate next steps that the Coalition should take forward to tackle areas of need in the city.
