Description
As the Queen continues her 65th year on the throne and the world celebrates her milestone Sapphire Jubilee, it has been suggested by Romford MP Andrew Rosindell that it would be a “missed opportunity” not to have a national day of celebration. With this in mind Mr. Rosindell has put his Queen’s Sapphire Jubilee Bill to the Commons in a bid to set aside a day in June this year for commemorative events. We do hope he succeeds.
Meanwhile, there has been increased speculation in the media of late about whether the Queen might finally be thinking about stepping down and letting Prince Charles become King. Over the past few years, the Prince of Wales has taken on more of his 90-year-old mother’s duties as a kind of “unofficial co-regency” and recently represented her at an evening reception to mark Commonwealth Day, an event that Her Majesty has rarely missed attending in person. Those close to the monarch, however, say she would never consider giving up the throne. She pledged to serve her country all of her life, and that is what she will do. We say whatever she does, God bless the Queen.
Speculation aside, we have plenty of great Royal features for you to enjoy in this issue, including the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall enjoying some colourful encounters with the locals on their nine-day European tour.
