HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN WILL HOST A ‘VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS’ RECEPTION AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Tuesday 29th November 2022

Her Majesty The Queen will host a reception to raise awareness of violence against women and girls as part of the UN 16 days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

The Queen has worked for years to raise awareness about violence against women – hearing first hand from survivors, advocating on their behalf and convening charities and decision makers in the space to discuss key issues.

This reception, taking place at Buckingham Palace during the UN 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, is a high watermark of Her Majesty’s work in the area, seeing the Queen host a major reception and make a significant speech on a subject about which she cares passionately.

The reception will be attended by the Countess of Wessex, Her Majesty Queen Mathilde of the Belgians, Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan and Her Royal Highness The Crown Princess of Denmark.

The c.300 guests include survivors of violence against women and girls, their families, politicians and charities working in the area (including representatives from SafeLives, Women’s Aid and Refuge). Ambassadors for the cause will include the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Baroness Scotland, Melanie Brown, Fiona Bruce, Yalda Hakim, Lorraine Kelly, Emma Barnett, Zara McDermott and Hayley Atwell.

Her Majesty has previously emphasized that men are victims of violence too and has met many male survivors.
