THE QUEEN WILL CELEBRATE THE NATIONAL LITERACY TRUST’S 30TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A RECEPTION AT CLARENCE HOUSE
Tuesday 9th July 2024
Her Majesty The Queen, as Patron of the National Literacy Trust, will host community volunteers and authors to celebrate the charity’s 30th anniversary at Clarence House.
The National Literacy Trust supports families with young children to help them develop the literacy skills they need to get the most out of life.
On arrival at the reception, Her Majesty will be greeted by Jonathan Douglas, Chief Executive, and Joanna Prior, Chair of Trustees, at the foot of the staircase.
The Queen will continue out into the garden of Clarence House (weather permitting) to meet small groups of community volunteers and authors.
The NLT’s Volunteer Literacy Champions, located in communities across the UK, help to show that literacy is for everyone through events and activities for children under 5 years old. This might involve creating and sharing fun activities for families, setting up and managing community bookshelves or becoming a storyteller.
During the reception, author and NLT Ambassador Adele Parks will give a short speech.
Before departing, the Queen will cut a special anniversary cake.
