THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE WILL VISIT LIVERPOOL

Thursday 14th September, 2017

The Duke of Cambridge will visit Liverpool for a day of engagements on Thursday 14th September 2017.

His Royal Highness will begin the visit at Aintree University Hospital to formally open the new Urgent Care and Trauma Centre (UCAT). This new unit, serving a catchment area of 2.3m residents in the North West, opened in January 2017 following a £35m redevelopment. The new Trauma Centre includes the addition of a charity funded air ambulance helicopter landing pad, which became operational in July. The Duke will meet clinical staff and tour the Emergency, Major Trauma, Resuscitation and the Observation Units, before meeting some of the elderly patients at the Frailty Assessment Unit. Before departure His Royal Highness will join a plaque unveiling ceremony at the front of the building.

The Duke of Cambridge will then travel to Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Life Rooms in Walton – a community hub and home for the Recovery College. Over 16,000 people have benefited from the centre, which serves the wider community in a way that challenges stigma and promotes positive mental health, learning and wellbeing. Life Rooms’ services include group and one-to-one advice sessions on finances, addiction, and employment and offer a space for community groups to meet. Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is one of the leading mental health trusts in the country, and their work was highlighted to The Duke during the Heads Together campaign earlier this year. During the visit, His Royal Highness will tour the centre, meet staff and specialist advisors, and will speak to service users about their personal experiences of working with Life Rooms.

Finally, The Duke of Cambridge will travel to Wallasey for a series of activities in the pools at Guinea Gap Leisure Centre, which will bring together three related patronages of His Royal Highness – the British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC), English Schools Swimming Association (ESSA) and Swim England (formally Amateur Swimming Association). The Duke will first call into the Merseyside Sub-Aqua Club clubhouse to chat with local divers before joining the event at the Guinea Gap Leisure Centre. At the pool, The Duke will see children from Wallasey Swimming Club showcasing Swim England’s ‘Learn to Swim’ programme and BSAC’s snorkeling and diving activities, and will view an ESSA water polo session in action.

Hampshire

Tuesday, 12th September 2017

The Duke of Cambridge, President of The Football Association (The FA), will pay a visit to Sporting Chance, a charity which is working with The FA to support those affected by non-recent cases of childhood sexual abuse within football.

Sporting Chance is a charity that specialises in helping professional and former professional sportspeople providing support for a range of issues from addictive disorders, to bereavement, depression, anxiety. It has a nationwide therapy and counselling network providing confidential, professional support to work through frequently complex issues.

The charity’s experience and expertise led to The FA approaching them to help establish a special support service for those who have been affected by these cases of non-recent childhood sexual abuse. This work was facilitated on behalf of The FA by an independent specialist in this field, Dr Elly Hanson.

Since reports of the abuse became public last year, Sporting Chance has been working with many survivors to offer help. The charity has developed a network of therapists suitably qualified and experienced to provide support to all those who need their help, which is available to all survivors of football-related sexual abuse.

The Duke will meet with the founder of Sporting Chance, former professional footballer Tony Adams, alongside CEO Colin Brand who will explain the work of the organisation. Specifically, His Royal Highness will learn about the special service Sporting Chance has set up for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse in sport.

His Royal Highness will speak with some of the support staff, including therapists and clinical psychologists who have helped to create the therapy programmes.

The Duke will also meet and speak with some of the survivors. He will hear their personal stories and learn how Sporting Chance has been able to help them, and how this professional support has helped.

This meeting will also be an opportunity for The Duke to hear how organisations like Sporting Chance are working to ensure these tragic cases can be prevented in the future, in football and across sport.

Prince Harry to visit Manchester

Monday 4th September, 2017

On Monday 4th September, Prince Harry will visit a number of organisations and projects in Manchester which each work in different ways to support sections of the city’s community.

Prince Harry will begin his visit to Manchester by returning to Canada Street. His Royal Highness visited alongside The Duke of Cambridge in 2015 as the street was undergoing a major DIY SOS transformation, creating suitable residences and a Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) hub for ex-service personnel making the transition back to civilian life. Prince Harry will visit the WWTW training house, which provides veterans with accommodation as they complete their pathway back to independence, work and into housing. His Royal Highness will meet some of WWTW’s beneficiaries and Canada Street residents, and will join a roundtable discussion on how multi-agency partnerships can support mental health provision for ex-servicemen and women, including those who come into contact with the criminal justice system.

His Royal Highness will next visit the NHS Manchester Resilience Hub, which was recently launched as a dedicated mental health service to help those affected by the Manchester Arena attack on 22nd May 2017. The Hub is staffed by trained mental health professionals with expertise in dealing with patients experiencing trauma. It works by providing a central point for phone-based mental health advice and support, and develops packages of care for families, individuals and professionals affected by the attack. His Royal Highness will learn more about the Hub’s provision of support to those affected, and will meet a number of the recovery workers and clinical leads.

Prince Harry will then travel to Manchester City Football Club to drop in on a Coach Core training session with Manchester’s first cohort of apprentices, since the programme launched in the city in January. Established in 2012 by The Royal Foundation, Coach Core is a year-long apprenticeship that combines formal learning and on the job training with local partner sporting bodies. It aims to create inspirational coaches who deliver sports coaching in their communities, particularly in communities that have traditionally had poor access to high quality, professional coaching. On arrival Prince Harry will meet with representatives from Coach Core’s Manchester partners, before joining the apprentices on the pitch as they deliver a training session to local school children.

His Royal Highness will lastly attend a reception hosted by the Rugby Football League (RFL), of which Prince Harry is newly Patron. The reception, hosted at Manchester City Football Club, is an opportunity for the England Elite Performance Squad to have their final meeting ahead of the 2017 Rugby League World Cup squad announcement in October. Prince Harry will have the opportunity to meet members of the England squad, as well as coaches such as Kevin Sinfield, Jamie Peacock, Denis Betts and Paul Sculthorpe along with support staff as they prepare for the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand this Autumn.
