THEIR MAJESTIES THE KING AND QUEEN WILL VISIT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF DRAMATIC ART

Wednesday 29th May 2024

His Majesty The King, Patron of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA), and Her Majesty The Queen will visit the academy to celebrate the school’s 120th anniversary, meeting staff, students and alumni.

On arrival, Their Majesties will be greeted by the Principal of RADA, Niamh Dowling, and Chair of RADA Council, Marcus Ryder.

Before touring the school, Their Majesties will be introduced to former students: actor and President of RADA, David Harewood and actress, singer and vice president Cynthia Erivo, who will accompany Their Majesties throughout the visit.

The King and Queen will meet students to learn about one of the school’s current productions, watching an extract of a play performed by third year acting students in the Gielgud Theatre. Their Majesties will then visit the Scenic Art Studio, where they will meet technical theatre arts students and hear about the set design and build process.

In the café space, Their Majesties will speak to students and alumni about their experience at RADA.

Earlier this month His Majesty was announced as Patron of RADA. Queen Elizabeth II held the patronage from 1952 until her death in 2022.

RADA’s association with the Royal Family goes back over 100 years, stemming from their Royal Charter granted in 1920, and including the visit of the future Edward VIII in 1921.
