THE PRINCE OF WALES BECOMES PATRON OF THE COLLEGE OF PARAMEDICS AND WILL ATTEND INAUGURAL EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE CONFERENCE
Birmingham
Wednesday 15th January 2025
The Prince of Wales has become Patron of the College of Paramedics and will attend its inaugural Emergency and Critical Care Conference in Birmingham. The conference is dedicated to supporting emergency responders in making effective decisions under pressure.
The College of Paramedics was established in 2001 and is a membership organisation open to all UK paramedics registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), student paramedics and those who have an interest in the paramedic profession and healthcare delivery. There are now over 20,000 members of the college and since its inception it has been instrumental in developing the paramedic profession through advocating for professional standards, learning and development, and taking care of paramedics’ mental health and wellbeing. In February 2024, the college was granted the Royal Charter of Incorporation by His Majesty King Charles III.
The Prince of Wales has a strong affiliation with emergency responders having witnessed first-hand the unique challenges this community faces on a daily basis through his roles as both an Air Ambulance and RAF Search and Rescue pilot. His Royal Highness has carried out important work within the community especially in relation to health and wellbeing. In 2018 the Prince convened an Emergency Responder Senior Leaders Board in response to research commissioned by The Royal Foundation, conducted by King’s College London and the Open University, which identified a need for the emergency services to work in unity to safeguard the mental health of their workforce.
At the conference, the Prince will first meet with the senior leaders of the college and speakers from the day as well as paramedics from a range of fields. Following this, His Royal Highness will watch two sessions at the conference focused on trauma critical care and the techniques used during Search and Rescue helicopter missions.
Finally, His Royal Highness will deliver a short speech.
