THE PRINCESS ROYAL WILL VISIT THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA
21st to 22nd January 2025
As President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC), Her Royal Highness will unveil the Cape Town Labour Corps Memorial. This new memorial honours the contribution of South African military labourers of the First World War, and it is part of the CWGC’s commitment to ensure all those who died in the two World Wars are commemorated equally.
During the visit, the Princess Royal will also undertake a series of engagements in Cape Town including visits to the South African Riding for the Disabled Association (SARDA); the Desmond and Leah Tutu Legacy Foundation; the Royal Cape Yacht Club (RCYC); the South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) and a Thuthuzela Care Centre (TCC) where Her Royal Highness will meet local communities and celebrate the work of projects around the area. The Princess Royal will also attend a reception at the British High Commissioner’s Residence in Cape Town.
The Princess Royal last visited South Africa in 2012 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth II’s diamond jubilee.
