HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN WILL VISIT CHRIST CHURCH C OF E PRIMARY SCHOOL, CHELSEA

Wednesday 26th June 2024

Her Majesty The Queen will visit Christ Church C of E Primary School, celebrating their Literary Festival.

Between Monday 10th June to Friday 5th July, the school is hosting its own Literary Festival, in which children are being sponsored by family and friends to read as many books as possible. With 200 pupils at the school, it is hoped that more than 500 books were read by the end of the first week.

Visiting a Reception class, Her Majesty will hear about the school’s ‘Shepherd and Sheep’ reading initiative. The initiative allocates new pupils starting school, in Reception, to a Year 6 pupil to be their ‘shepherd’ who acts as a friend and role-model throughout the children’s first year at school.

The Queen will also join a Year 4 class taking part in a felt making workshop and speak to children about their favourite books.

In the school’s garden, Her Majesty will be greeted by children and teachers at a literary fair. The Queen will see the positive impact reading has brought to the students and will have the opportunity to discuss the Literary Festival at the poetry corner and book stand.

At the conclusion of the visit, the Queen will join a short assembly to hear the school choir perform and hear from two students who will speak about their favourite books.
