THE PRINCE OF WALES TO VISIT DUCHY FOCUS FARM IN HEREFORD TO EXPLORE THE FUTURE OF FARMING ON THE ROAD TO NET ZERO

Blakemere, Hereford

Tuesday 28th January 2025

The Prince of Wales will visit Lower Blakemere Farm in Hereford to learn more about how the multigenerational farm has refined regenerative farming practices and farm diversification as part of its journey to net zero.

Lower Blakemere Farm is one of the Duchy of Cornwall’s seven Focus Farms, an initiative designed to share knowledge and experiences of the transition to greener farming practices. The 630-acre Hereford based farm was established in the early 1980s as a specialist seed grower with a herd of South Devon cattle. The farm has evolved over time and the family have embraced regenerative farming, with a focus on restoring soil health, boosting biodiversity, and using farming practices that are sustainable for the long term. Such approaches are at the heart of the Duchy of Cornwall’s efforts to reach its target of becoming net zero across the estate by the end of 2032.

Tenant farmers Phil and Heather Gorringe, with their son Monty, have also diversified the farm business including repurposing the old grain store, creating an event space for local community use and launching a successful composting business.

HIS MAJESTY THE KING MARKS THE 35TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE KING’S FOUNDATION AS THE CHARITY LAUNCHES A YEAR OF CELEBRATIONS

Wednesday 15th January 2025

His Majesty The King, Royal Founding President, will join community representatives, students, alumni and ambassadors to celebrate the launch of The King’s Foundation 35th anniversary year at Dumfries House, Cumnock.

The King’s Foundation is a charity founded by His Majesty as Prince of Wales and was formed in 1990. The charity is inspired by the vision and values of His Majesty, who remains its Royal Founding President. The foundation works to build sustainable communities and transform lives, with an emphasis on protecting and promoting nature.

The charity’s early work at the Institute for Architecture formed the basis of the expanding work that it carries out today and laid the foundations for The King’s Foundation. The institute worked to build sustainable towns and cities, with Poundbury as an early project.

The King’s Foundation has, over the past 35 years, enriched the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, through its community regeneration projects, education programmes and international reach.

At a celebratory event at Dumfries House, the King will place the first item into The King’s Foundation’s 35th anniversary time capsule, marking the start of a year of celebrations.

Throughout its 35th year, The King’s Foundation will collect items for the time capsule which individuals feel represent the achievements and legacy of The King’s Foundation. The items will focus particularly on what inspired people to devote their time to protecting the built and natural world. Once collated, the time capsule will be buried on the Dumfries House estate and opened a hundred years from now.

Before departure, His Majesty will also have the opportunity to speak to members of the local community, ambassadors and alumni.

THE PRINCE OF WALES BECOMES PATRON OF THE COLLEGE OF PARAMEDICS AND WILL ATTEND INAUGURAL EMERGENCY AND CRITICAL CARE CONFERENCE

Birmingham

Wednesday 15th January 2025

The Prince of Wales has become Patron of the College of Paramedics and will attend its inaugural Emergency and Critical Care Conference in Birmingham. The conference is dedicated to supporting emergency responders in making effective decisions under pressure.

The College of Paramedics was established in 2001 and is a membership organisation open to all UK paramedics registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), student paramedics and those who have an interest in the paramedic profession and healthcare delivery. There are now over 20,000 members of the college and since its inception it has been instrumental in developing the paramedic profession through advocating for professional standards, learning and development, and taking care of paramedics’ mental health and wellbeing. In February 2024, the college was granted the Royal Charter of Incorporation by His Majesty King Charles III.

The Prince of Wales has a strong affiliation with emergency responders having witnessed first-hand the unique challenges this community faces on a daily basis through his roles as both an Air Ambulance and RAF Search and Rescue pilot. His Royal Highness has carried out important work within the community especially in relation to health and wellbeing. In 2018 the Prince convened an Emergency Responder Senior Leaders Board in response to research commissioned by The Royal Foundation, conducted by King’s College London and the Open University, which identified a need for the emergency services to work in unity to safeguard the mental health of their workforce.

At the conference, the Prince will first meet with the senior leaders of the college and speakers from the day as well as paramedics from a range of fields. Following this, His Royal Highness will watch two sessions at the conference focused on trauma critical care and the techniques used during Search and Rescue helicopter missions.

Finally, His Royal Highness will deliver a short speech.
